Business video platform, Wistia, has announced support for 360 video to empower video producers, business owners, and marketers to create immersive 360 experiences, while maintaining Wistia's customizable controls and in-depth analytics.

To provide a uniform viewing experience across all devices, Wistia is also launching Wistia 360, a native iOS application for mobile support for 360 video across Apple devices. Advanced analytics and spatial heatmaps will also enable businesses to visualize viewer interaction and iteratively learn from 360 video creation and engagement.

Today’s launch includes the following capabilities across 360 video hosting, device support, analytics and more:

360 Video Hosting

  • Businesses can now host 360 video in the Wistia player.
  • Marketers can share interactive content on company websites and customize the player to match their brand.
  • Wistia supports viewing of 360 video on desktop, mobile, and VR headsets.
  • To play a 360 video on Wistia, the viewer will download 169KB of compressed JavaScript code. To do the same thing with YouTube’s player, the viewer must download 496KB.

Mobile Device Support for 360 Video

  • Wistia’s 360 support enables all 360 videos in Wistia’s player to be touch and accelerometer-responsive, meaning you can drag your finger or move your device to explore the 360 environment.
  • On Android, Wistia 360 videos will play automatically as the native browser supports 360 video.

Native iOS Application for 360 Video: Wistia 360

  • Wistia has built a native app for iOS called Wistia 360. Using the Wistia 360 app ensures that viewers using iOS devices have the same Wistia experience.
  • The app is available for download from the Apple App Store for free and it will allow viewers to load and watch Wistia hosted 360 videos. Download Wistia 360 here.

360 Video Spatial Heatmaps

  • Wistia has developed a proprietary solution to visualize viewer interaction with 360 video.
  • Spatial heatmaps provide the same level of detailed Wistia analytics for 360 video to help producers understand how viewers engaged with the content, so they can optimize the experience based on real data.
  • Wistia’s spatial heatmaps show where in the experience an individual viewer is looking, and provide an aggregate view of trends in viewing behavior.
