UK media and marketing companies are heading into the election year with boosted confidence, according to the the ninth edition of the Business Confidence Index (BCI) form Regus, the global workplace provider. The annual report, which is based on actual business performance over the past 12 months, reveals a 4 point rise in confidence within the sector from 116 points to 120 when compared with last year. Overall, the sector expresses a slightly lower level of confidence than the UK economy as a whole. The UK average, based on the views of 3000 business owners and senior managers from various sectors, rose 7 points from 117 to 124.

The report paints a picture of positivity and growth as the UK gears up for the 2015 general election, and reveals that 61% of UK media companies saw a rise in revenues in the past year, while 56% saw a significant growth in profits.

In addition, the report reveals that new ways of working are helping businesses to grow. A third of surveyed media and marketing companies (33%) increased their flexible working options for staff over the past twelve months.

Richard Morris, UK Managing Director at Regus, commented: “Media and marketing companies do not seem concerned with 2015 election uncertainty, far from it.”

He added: “Flexible ways of working – particularly in relation to the physical workspace – are playing a significant role in the success of the UK media sector. Companies are managing growth carefully, with many recognising that full-time, permanent office space with its associated long-term leasing is no longer the only option. Remaining agile helps business secure and retain top talent, and keeping overheads low is vital to sustainable business growth.”
