Many home businesses are now feeling the benefit of some of the more obvious applications available to them, for example Skype, Hoot Suite and Feedly but what about some of the perhaps lesser know ones that can really help you get to grips with the everyday juggle.

Here at Penelope, we have created a straightforward guide to some of our favourite apps to help you stay in control while working smarter and more flexibly.

1.Time Management

Bill Minder- With all of the bills you have to pay, in the home and in your business, it’s impossible to keep track of everything. Bill Minder lets you see where your money goes and keeps track of the bills. You can also create charts and reports and set up upcoming bill notifications. It’s as fun as bills will ever get.

Remember the Milk -This is an online ‘to do’ list and task management app. Whether it’s a business matter or you really need to pick up some milk, Remember the Milk will help organise, prioritise and manage all you need to do. Even better, it syncs with Evernote.

2.Storing your information

Evernote – Evernote is convenient cloud storage. It organises pictures, internet bookmarks, documents and other data and syncs everything together. This means that no matter what device you are using, you can access all your information which is perfect for any surprise meetings.

CaptureOnTouch- This is ideal if you’re in a meeting and you need a copy of those important documents but there’s no copier or scanner in sight. CaptureOnTouch turns your device into a scanner allowing you to have a clear copy of documents either as a PDF, JPEG, sent to online storage or to another device. It makes information easier to access and store.

LastPass-It is recommended that you use a different password for each web account you create which gets slightly harder when you have over 10 different passwords to remember. Security is important when it comes to your business and LastPass helps keep your accounts secure by managing your passwords all in one place.

3.Building your Business Network

Glyder- Glyder is an app created for small business social marketing. This app allows you to post to Facebook, Twitter, Email, and many more either with a pre-designed template or with one of your own. It’s perfect for keeping customers updated with the latest news and offers and increasing your networks.

Cardmunch- After a busy networking event, the business cards can pile up and the thought of manually putting them into your phone is off putting. With Cardmunch all you have to do is take a quick photo of the business card and it will turn it into a phone contact. It also allows you to connect on LinkedIn which is a great way of building your business network.

4.Communication

Blue Jeans Network- It can be hard to arrange a video conference when you use Skype, your colleague uses Cisco and your client uses Google Video chat. Blue Jeans Network has created a cloud-based video collaboration service that makes communicating easy and flexible with access from most devices. Whether you’re working from your PC by your desk or sitting on the sofa with your tablet, Blue Jeans Network can help you connect.

Alta Mail- We all have multiple email accounts and keeping track of them can mean logging in and out of each account many times a day. However, with Alta Mail you can keep track of all email accounts in one place. The app also lets you create email templates, set reminders, and with its handy rules engine you can choose what happens to certain emails such as archive it, put it in a certain file, or read it straight away.

5.Planning

TripIt- If you often travel or just go away once in a while and like things organised, TripIt makes it easier to share and organise travel itineraries. Forward confirmation emails - such as flights, trains, restaurants, hotels etc. to plans@tripit.com, and it will build your itinerary for you. It is worth noting that although TripIt recognises thousands of companies, it may not always recognise your confirmation but if this happens, it can always be put in manually.
