And Brazil, Mexico and US have the Most Competitive App Markets, according to the 2016 App Olympics by Cheetah Ad Platform.
With an average of 102 times per user per month, Britons are way ahead of all other countries when engaging with shopping apps. We engage with shopping apps twice as often as the US where users engage 58 times per user per month with them. However, the most popular apps UK consumers have on their smartphones are communication apps, with up to 3 apps per user per month.

The UK also shows the second highest rate of communication apps on their smartphones with 2.7 apps per user, per month – some of these apps would include the popular WhatsApp, Skype and Viber. Only Indians have a higher number of communication apps on their smartphones with 3.7 apps per user per month.
On the other side of the scale are educational gaming apps which show the lowest engagement rates in the UK with 14 times per user per month. However, the least popular app category people having on their smartphones are gaming music apps – which also appear to be the least popular app field across a variety of markets.
The winner of the App Olympics is Brazil-it has the highest user engagement and app competition, with Brazilian consumershaving an average of 29.23 apps on their smartphones and engaging with 53.62 average apps per month.
Brazil, Mexico, and US have the most competitive app markets and the average user spanning the entire world uses an average of 27 apps and engages with 39 apps per month.
All the nine countries which were monitored showed a high engagement in gaming app categories, including education, action, trivia, simulation, sports, strategy, casino, word, and lifestyle app categories, including productivity, shopping, social, and personalisation. The app categories that resulted in low competition, represent opportunities for app developers to break into these engaging app categories, while others resulted in high competition, showcasing what apps are in demand for these specific countries.

The data from Cheetah Ad Platform also shows that with 1.8 million apps in the app store, 2.3 million apps in the Google Play store, and thousands of apps being introduced everyday, it's fair to say that apps are in a very competitive industry. To capture the competition in app development, Cheetah Ad Platform looked at data from 52 million Android smartphone users to showcase how users engage with their mobile devices and apps across the globe.
