For most businesses, recruitment is a vital process that is often time consuming, expensive and frustrating. Of course sourcing the candidates is a critical step, but so is processing them effectively. Many routes are available ranging from headhunting and consultants through to job boards and word of mouth.

Social media isn’t anything new now; the majority of us have embraced the world of social media, it’s an easy-to-use tool that companies are now embracing as a way of searching for great talent. The ideal candidate is someone who fits into the office environment with ease, therefore is there a better way of finding this person then through your employees existing social media networks?

Referrals through social media have the highest chance to result in a mutual fit. Global companies like Deloitte are already utilising social media networks to source the top talent to their teams. Through social media, employers can not only reach candidates faster and at a lower cost but it also improves their corporate culture. It is fast becoming the simplest way for employers to directly engage with their target audience and easily identify whether the candidates are a good cultural fit for the company or not.

Social recruiting will also help you to retain staff. Research found that employees are 46% more likely to stay with an organisation when referred by an individual they are connected to on social networks. Social media referrals open the door to find candidates that you may never find through traditional hiring methods, as job seekers can be specifically targeted trough your employee’s social database.

Social media is no longer just a simple socialising instrument; it has come of age as a recruitment tool. Hiring a candidate that has been referred to you by an existing employee is not only profitable for you, as a business, but will also increase your persona as a great place to work. Social media platforms are replacing the traditional recruitment process and the out-dated paper application will become a thing of the past.
