With over 300 million active users, Twitter has proven to be one of most effective social networks for driving direct traffic to websites. Yet few Twitter users take the time to think about how they might increase the number of clicks on their tweets.
Here are some top tips on how to improve Twitter click through rates to help drive direct traffic and boost conversions.
Use Images
Making use of images in your tweets not only makes them larger and more visible in your followers’ feeds, but can also drive click though rates. According to HubSpot, tweets that use images receive 18% more clickthroughs.
If you are using images in your tweets, make sure that they are relevant to the content you’re promoting. Using irrelevant or unrelated images could lead to a high bounce rate.
Add Hashtags
With hashtags, you can categorise your tweets so they appear in trending searches on Twitter. If used effectively, hashtags can improve click through rates.
Make sure that you research potential hashtags before using them in your tweet. Use Twitter’s search function to find out what hashtags people are using and identify a hashtag to use that’s relevant to what you’re tweeting about. In addition to this, hashtags are highlighted in blue, which will help your tweet stand out in your followers’ feeds.
Apply a Call to Action
When adding a link in your tweet, it’s important that you include a call to action to help drive click through rates.
For example, if you’re pushing a service that offers a free consultation, include this with your link to a contact form on your website. Additionally, construct your tweet to help make it obvious to followers that you want them to click the link you have included. For example:

Retweeting
Retweets allow your tweet to reach a wider audience that may include more potential customers. If you want your followers retweet your tweet to their followers, all you have to do is ask! On top of that, tweets that include a link receive 86% more retweets than tweets that do not.
Be Persuasive and Concise
People are always using Twitter to find great content, so it pays to be persuasive in your tweeting. If you’re offering something of value to your followers, make sure you clearly communicate its benefits.
For example, if you’re looking to promote a downloadable guide or a new blog post that’s recently been published on your website, use popular words like “how to” or “top tips” in your tweet.
Whenever tweeting, be as clear and concise as you can. Twitter users scroll quickly through their feeds, so you may only have a matter of seconds to catch their attention. Using as few characters as possible, clearly state what you’re tweeting about, why it’s beneficial to your followers, and what you want them to do.
